Backup your data

Sadly, over the years, we have been called into restore data from backups that just are not there or are unusable. We have teamed up with New Zealand based, DataSafe New Zealand Limited, which stores your backups....in New Zealand. An important factor when it comes to IRD requirements

When we investigated the system we measured it against:

Data encryption and security
Your data needs to be secure and highly encrypted. No other person should have or is ever able to have access to it

Speed of backup and restore
The system must be quick. You need to be able to have your backup restored fast.

Ease of use
From the end users point of view it has to be devoid of geek speak. It needs to instill confidence that it is working. It needs to be flexible enough to take into account that what needs to be backup up today maybe different tomorrow.

Multiple data duplication
Putting all your eggs in one basket is risky. Therefore the encrypted data needs to be stored (and be retrievable from) multiple geographic locations

Cost
The cost needs to be reasonable and such that it is minimal compared to the cost of disaster recovery. Most insurance policies don't cover data loss so the cost of backing up should not be more than a small level of insurance protection. because that is what it is

Reporting to multiple recipients
And finally , one of the most importants points, there needs to be someone checking that the system is working not just once a year or even monthly, but daily. Datasafe check that the backups are functioning constantly. Bizkit manually checks for succesful backups everyday at around 6 am and as the owner of the data, you have email reporting to ensure that you are kept in the loop.
